In this episode of the Open for Business podcast, we have a genuine feel-good story for you! Lyndon Galea is the founder of Eat Up. Lyndon created this business in his hometown of Shepparton, Victoria when he found that 1 in 8 kids were going to school on an empty stomach. He decided that he had to do something about it and gathered up some of his mates to help him make sandwiches which he then took to the local school and gave them to the teaches to hand out to the kids in need.
Today, Lyndon is based in Melbourne and has grown Eat Up into a successful business working with 18+ schools in the state to ensure that kids that are in the unfortunate position of going to school hungry, are fed and given the best chance to get the most out of their important early days of education.
It’s time to find out more about this legend doing great this and just how he built his business. Let’s do this!!
TOP LEARNINGS IN THIS EPISODE:
1. You don’t need loads of money to get started!! This is a limiting belief, where there is a will there is a way!
2. Talk to other people about your idea / business / venture! Comminucate and network! You just don’t know what opportunities are out there for you to take advantage of!
3. Give it a go! Don’t hold back because it’s not worth regretting it later! What’s the worst that can happen anyway?

In this episode of the Open for Business podcast you and I are going to pull apart domains! Yes, website domains if you’re not entirely sure! The URL (Uniform Resource Locator) that is the key to the door of your online home or base that is your website!
In the coming weeks on a fortnightly basis, I am going to be recording a personal solo podcast (just you and me!) digging into the finer points of building an online business or brand and helping you with all the tech and web stuff that can often be a confusing minefield which will make you want to give up before you even get started! I know, because that was me when I first started out and it was difficult to find the DIY information that I needed to get started! Money is always a huge factor when building a personal brand or starting your own business. I want to give you all the tips and tricks that I learnt in order to bootstrap your startup or venture!
These solo shows are going to be quick (time is your most valuable commodity and I don’t want to waste ANY of yours!) but FULL of value for you to use immediately! That said, lets do this!!
TOP LEARNINGS IN THIS EPISODE:
1. Make sure you plan your choice of domain name by checking if its already taken (or a version of it that could be an issue).
2. If your domain name is your brand name and you want to use the brand name for social media channels, check that the name isn’t already taken on the social platforms you want to use.
3. Some people (like Chris Ducker) say that its best to choose a ‘personal’ domain (your name or a version of it) instead of your ‘brand’ name. The reason being, if your brand needs to change then you are locked in. If your using a ‘personal’ domain you have more versatility as it is your own name.
4. If you choose to register your domain as your brand name, think about also registering your personal name (variation of it), if its available, in case you decide you want it in the future!
5. Make sure you set your domain to renew automatically so that you don’t wake up one day and find out it’s expired and someone else registered it overnight!
RESOURCES AND LINKS FROM THIS EPISODE:
Bluehost – Cheap domains to get you started!
Netregistry – Aussie owned and reliable domains ready and waiting!
